Trial set for Luis Eduardo Ramirez death

Brandon J. Piekarsky and Derrick M. Donchak, both of Shenandoah, PA, are scheduled to be tried on April 27th. Both are charged with charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and ethnic intimidation. Piekarsky also is charged with criminal solicitation/hindering apprehension or prosecution and purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor.

A third person originally charged, Colin J. Walsh, will now testify against both Piekarsky and Donchak.

Jury selection is stated to take place April 12th.

Luis Eduardo Ramirez Zavala, 25, of Shenandoah, was assaulted on July 12, 2008. He died two days later in the hospital. Ramirez Zavala was survived by his fiance Crystal Dillman. The death created racial tensions in Shenandoah in the following months. Both anti-illegal immigration and pro-illegal immigration sides held rallies in Sheandoah.
